Miramar Pineland Park, Broward County’s newest, opened this spring, and SRS was delighted to have been a part of its creation. Our work, commissioned by Broward County’s Parks and Recreation Division, included site development, master planning, and construction administration. At a cost of $2.9 million, the 157-acre site at University Drive near Florida Turnpike’s Homestead Extension was transformed from a forgotten land parcel into a park designed for recreation and appreciation of preserved, diverse native Florida elements. Visitors can now enjoy dedicated walkways and trails through the forest, scrubby flatlands, and distinctive vegetative areas, and venture across boardwalks to explore the restored wetlands.
The park also offers an expansive covered playground; the County’s first public interactive children’s water play Splash Pad; and three rental shelters for picnics, parties, and barbecues.
Of special note, Miramar Pineland Park was designed to accommodate the controlled burns that occur in nature, which provide for recurring seasonal growth of native vegetation.
